Experimental OpenID Support

I just added experimental support for OpenID logins on Dopplr. With the help of the Rails open_id_authentication plugin, it only took a couple of hours to get it going.

You can’t yet use it to signup for a new account, but anyone with an existing Dopplr account can now register one or more identity URLs using the link in their ‘Account’ page. Have a go, and do remember to send us feedback on whether it works for you.

  1. Awesome!

  2. Sweet!! Nice work!

  3. The OpenID works very nicely for me, and for the first time in my life i actually ‘got it’ – why OpenID is such a good idea! I’ve been working on enabling OpenID for MyChores. Funny, i used a completely different plugin; the code seems completely different from the code i used, but it works just the same.

Thanks so much for giving me the inspiration.

  4. I just wanted to say i have given credit to Dopplr for inspiring me to enable OpenID on MyChores. Without you i wouldn’t have thought of using OpenID for anything other than commenting on blogs. Thanks so much! Your credit is near the bottom of this page: http://aimee.mychores.co.uk/

  5. Awesome…addition

  6. I’ve tried to http://www.dopplr.com/openid/login using my OpenID provided by https://pip.verisignlabs.com/ but I receive the Error Message:

“Sorry, no user by that identity URL exists (http://wolf.gregor.pip.verisignlabs.com/). Please follow the ‘Manage’ link below and associate an OpenID URL with your account.”

    Any help?

  7. Right now you can only log into an existing Dopplr account with OpenID, and you’ll need to have associated the OpenID with the account first for it to work.

Visit http://www.dopplr.com/account/openid and associate your OpenID, and you’ll be able to log in with it from then on.

  8. Will you be supporting MicroID to allow uses to claim their traveller pages?

  9. @Tom: “Right now you can only log into an existing Dopplr account with OpenID”

Er, then there’s not much point in having OpenID, is there? Do you have any plans to change this so it works like it should do?

  10. I saw your talk at d-Construct and was really impressed with your ideas and the work you’ve done on Dopplr.

I rushed over to sign in, but was disappointed to find that I can’t use my OpenId to sign up for an account. I know I can sign in with a password and then add OpenId, but I’m stubborn and lazy so I’m not bothering for now.

So, for lazy people like me, I think you should streamline your OpenId support. Although, I’ve not even got round to doing it on my own site yet, so I can’t winge too much.
