Google Earth mashups

Tom Insam has been helping us behind the scenes while we design the future Dopplr API. Using Zimki, a preview release of the API and some javascript code, he’s created a couple of Google Earth dynamic overlays that visualise your trips and the location of your fellow travellers.

  1. When will this be ready? I hope you guys are thinking about iCal too, there’s so much you could do with it in and out of dopplr.

    Looking forward to it :)

Come on with the API people ;)

  3. Google Maps is an amazing application. But I have been working with Yahoo! Maps in Flash and I find it to be a much better performer in the browser when overlaying polylines and media. Its AJAX that is the problem. Try this: go to Google Maps and start a new map under My Maps and add a few points using the polyline tool. Drag a point around and get a feel for how it performs. Now go to my site http://www.runningmap.com, load a map, and click around to create a route. Drag a route point around. It is so much smoother and this is just with a few points. I don’t work for Yahoo! Just saying …

  4. Could be useful to send/publish your real-time position in a map?
    Think about it.
