Sound-Proofing Hotel Rooms
NY Times: Blessed Silence Is the Newest Amenity. Hotels have tried to one-up one another with everything from custom-branded mattresses to aromatherapy candles to feather-soft sheets to help guests sleep — everything short of dispensing Ambien in the minibar. So why not sound-proof hotels? Spotting an untapped marketing opportunity, hotels are increasingly installing double-paned windows, noise-deadening door gaskets, thicker walls and even listening to heating and cooling systems to find the quietest model.
I’d definitely seek out places like this.
Me, too. I would be completely happy to pay more for it, even.
I can’t believe this isn’t a standard already. It’s like expensive hotels that don’t have Air-Con.
Not sure what philosophies run the hotel business at the moment but surely it’s not to hard to recognise 9 times out of 10 all guests want is to eat, wash and sleep.
Practices like sound proofing a room (and air-con) should be standard.
Moan-mode terminated.

The story does note that airport hotels tend to be good at soundproofing (they’d better). Of course, their location kinda sucks….
Oh yeah - if the lady in the room next door on my last trip, or maybe down the hall, wasn’t ready to sleep none of us were going to drop off…
It really should be standard in all hotels, there is nothing worse than trying to get to sleep and hearing someone’s TV through the wall! Generally I have never had a problem with sound coming through the hotel windows.
