Connect on Dopplr to your Linked-In Contacts
You asked for it, here it is…
Click “Find and Invite” at the top of any Dopplr page, and select “Linked-In”.
At the moment, due to the way Linked-In is built, we have to use the ‘Email Address/Password’ method to access your Linked-In which we’re not thrilled about, but we’re talking to the good people there about how to move to a better way of doing this - as we have with other networks. Remember, we never store your password, or send email to anyone without your permission.
We want to move every tool we have like this over to methods that don’t require such measures, and are working hard to do so - but in the mean-time we want to give you the choice to access the networks you value.

About Time! This is great. Maybe you could to talk to the Linked-In folks to add the Dopplr badge to out Linked-in profiles.
You should
- do a trade with linkedin to have widgets from each available on the other’s pages
- use OpenSocial or similar to join identities on the two systems. If I’m on LinkedIn and give permission to join identities, and so is a LinkedIn contact of mine, we should at least have the option be joined on Dopplr without a further set of (do you know Bob? yes, I know Bob. exchanges).
jonm,
We agree, and we’re working actively with the nice people at LinkedIn. They’re giving us access to their official new API so we can implement features like that.
[…] It’s an evolving service with quite a few additions to functionality since it came out of beta last December, the latest once being connecting with your contacts on LinkedIn. […]
Hello
Quick Question:
Just curious as to whether you folks are using hCard and hResume microformat to pull contacts from linked in?
Reason I ask is I reviewed the open sourced identity manager code of dopplr and did not find any module for linked in pull.
Can you please explain?
zenster,
Because our LinkedIn code takes a username and password and screen-scrapes the LinkedIn site, we didn’t want to include it in our open-source release. It’s bad practice and we don’t want to encourage it. When we are able to create a new version using an official LinkedIn API, we’ll publish the code as usual at http://github.com/mattb/identity-matcher (just like we did when we added the passwordless Yahoo Mail checker).
Matt.
Thanks Matt,
You guys are definitely doing a great job… keep it up
