Our lovely new business cards from Moo

Moo.com kindly let us be alpha-testers to their new business card range.

Of course, we couldn’t resist setting ourselves a technical challenge with the design to try and do something particularly ‘dopplresque’ with them.

Here’s MattB:

I’m particularly happy that Matt [J] made the design in Illustrator, then exported it as SVG, which I templated in Rails and produced personalised editions for each of us based on our travel data, which was then rasterized to PNG (using Batik) to go to print. It’s the future.

He had hoped to be able to give a few of them out at Reboot10, but unfortunately due to illness he’s had stay home.

So instead of making some announcements there this week, we’ll be doing them here on the dopplrblog instead…

Stay tuned!

  1. As a long time Dopplr user (and fan) I got to say these look mighty cool. I need some of that :)

  2. Great to see the new cards! It’s nice having two British companies coming together like this.

  3. Well done!
We could actually want those, ya know? :)

  4. Awesome, can’t wait to get some.

Interested why you don’t go straight from Ruby to SVG then to print? Although I guess Moo.com doesn’t support SVG? Batik is awesome, love it.

  5. Pretty!

Now what would be even cooler is some moo + Dopplr integration so that *any* Dopplr user could get little short runs of cards with the “Where next?” color squares + cities. Would make for excellent conversation pieces.

  6. Ian,

Yes, Moo’s API supports GIF, JPEG and PNG. More at http://www.moo.com/api/documentation.php

  7. Tantek - we’re experimenting with something like that… Any one else think they would like Dopplr/Moo cards based on their personal data? Leave a comment!

  8. Yes please Matt, that would be lovely.

  9. Do I really need to say hell yeah? Also I want a Richard Moross page.

  10. These are awesome. Personal cards would be great too. And even better, would be able to print cards specific to each travel destination that I’m at. So when I give out cards looking for a job at Future of Web Apps, the cards highlights the current location and note on it. Even easier for the overloaded recipient to see the personalization. I don’t mind paying extra $$ (or whatever currency) if it brings more personalization.

  11. Heh. You guys are funny.

Yeah, this would be fun to have. Do your magick and make a pretty and lickable button that says ‘Make it so!’

    Heh. You guys _are_ funny.

  12. Ben, per your comment, Dopplr are not British, they are Finnish but just happen to have a UK office…..

  13. Matt, I would absolutely LOVE some business cards personalized w/ name and locations. GREAT idea.

  14. Matt
I would definitely be interested in Moo/Dopplr mashup cards!

  15. Very nice moo business cards! I echo everyone else’s comments that personalized cards with locations/other personal data would be crazy good! Even better would be turn that tech magic you did into a web app that can be used outside of Dopplr too.
