Reboot ended yesterday - and here in Copenhagen there are probably a lot of people with quite sore heads this morning, waking-up slowly, packing to head back to their home cities and wondering where all the wonderful sunshine we have had for the past few days has gone.
It’s been a mighty fine few days of seeing old friends, meeting new ones and of course, doing my first public talk about Dopplr. It seemed to go well, and I got a lot of nice feedback from people - as well as lots of requests to join the beta!
One particularly gratifying thing was sitting in the sunshine with about 10 or so Dopplr users and listening to their ideas, their frustrations and the things they love about Dopplr.
Reboot is one of the great new wave of conferences where the crowd get to generate the content and the schedule. So, we took the opportunity to set up a feedback session, prompted and encouraged by two early Dopplr travellers and prominent bloggers: Stephanie Booth and Stowe Boyd.
After discovering that the mysterious ‘room 2′ we had been allocated was in fact a shower room (!) we opted to sit in the sunshine outside the venue on deckchairs and proceeded to have a fantastic, free-flowing discussion for about 45 minutes or so. I took copious notes and will be sharing them with MattB and the rest of the Dopplristas asap.
Perhaps the message that resonated with me most was that Dopplr needs allow you to ‘be more fuzzy’ about places and timings of your future travels.
A fascinating challenge - could we do this, keep the user-experience as simple and clean and deliver the benefits of serendipity better? With Reboot’s overall theme this year being “Human?” I would say that introducing some “fuzziness” would make your model of the future more ‘human’ and its definitely something I know that MattB has been thinking about. Can’t wait to have a crack at it!
Finally, personally - I’ve spent a long time working for big corporations, and this was the first time that I’ve spoken about something that feels a lot more personal. It was terrifying - but really rewarding. To have people come up, tap you on the shoulder and say “I love Dopplr” feels incredible.
Thanks to everyone at Reboot for the warm response and huge thanks to Thomas M-M and the Reboot Crew for the opportunity, and the whole event.
