Dopplr badge for your blog

Blog badgeSeveral people have asked us for a way to list their trips on their blog, so today we’ve added a blog badge system. Visit your account page and follow the link to “Add a Dopplr badge to your blog” to get the code to paste into your templates. Written in unobtrusive Javascript, it only uses a couple of lines of HTML and will work with any blogging system as it requires no server-side plugin.

You can also customise the display; if you want us to be a little vague about dates, to hide future trips and only show your current location, or even to hide the badge from visitors who aren’t fellow Dopplr travellers, that’s fine by us.

  4. Good addition! Quite usefull. Will you provide some kind of localitation (I would like to have it in spanish, for example).

  5. Very nice - however, why don’t you use hCal markup for each of the trips? Add adr for the actual locations as well.

  7. If there’s only one trip ahead, the exact date does not show up, even if that option is activated.

  8. Sando,

Thanks for spotting that. We’ve found the problem and it’ll be fixed in our next code release.

  10. Hey, nice :)
So, what does the color encoding for the badge mean?

  11. The colours of the badge are based on the next few cities you have trips scheduled to - see http://blog.dopplr.com/index.php/2007/10/23/in-rainbows/ for details of how we pick them.

  12. Is there some way to easily resize the badge? I’ve tried a few hacks of my CSS, but they work in Firefox only. IE users report that the badge is too wide for the column I’ve put it in.

  13. Ed,

We’re working on some IE CSS fixes this week. Hoping to have something for you soon.

    Matt.

  14. Ed,

Today we revised some of the badge CSS. Hopefully you’ll find that the badge now fits its containing column on IE.

Steve Castledine wrote some hints on sizing the badge with a simple change to the CSS in the suggested html: http://www.stevecastledine.com/sc.nsf/dx/dopplr-badges-on-blogs

    Matt.

  15. Thanks Matt! Looks great now.
